Historical Egara Sindhu Village of Pakundia Upazila of Kishoreganj is full of unique monuments of ancient architectural style, history and tradition.
Isha Khan, the chief hero of Bar Bhuiyan, had his fort here. The historic battle between Isha Khan and Mughal commander Mansingh also took place here. This region of red clay is the oldest compared to other regions of Bangladesh. Its signs are many ancient tombs and mosques of this place. Shah Mahmud Mosque and Sadi Mosque are also unique examples of two ancient monuments.
There is disagreement about the builders of the Egarsindu fort. Some say, King Azahaba, some say King Bebud, and some say King Gaur Gauvinda. After the Sultanate period, the area of Egarsindur came under the control of the Koch Hajongs. Isha Khan, the chief of Bar Bhuiyan in Bengal, defeated the Koch Hajong kings and captured the fort of Egarsindur. From this fort, later Mughal commanders were able to defeat Raja Durjan Singh and later Raja Mansingh. Since then Egarsindur Fort is known as Isha Khan Fort.
Durft was almost wiped out by a terrible earthquake in 1897 and today there is only a grave marker and a mound.
An ancient architecture of Egarsindur is Shah Mahmud Mosque and Balakhana.
According to researchers, it was built around 1600 AD. Each side of this square mosque is 32 feet. There are 4 turrets at the four corners. There is a huge dome. There are two narrow minarets on either side. Inside there are 3 arches on the west wall.
It was named Shah Mahmud Mosque because Shah Mahmud built this mosque and palace.
Also, Sadi Mosque was built here in 1642 AD during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan.
This mosque, rich in terracotta decorations, is completely made of bricks. It is a square mosque with a dome. The length of each arm is 27 feet. Four towers around. There are 3 entrances on the east wall and 1 each on the north and south walls. There are terracotta plaques around the entrances. Inside there are 3 immaculately beautiful arches decorated with terracotta.
In the month of Rabiul Awal of 1062 Hijri during the reign of Shahjahan Badshah Gazi, this mosque was built on the initiative of Sheikh Niru's son Sadi, hence it was named Sadi Mosque.
Bebud Raja's Dighi is one of the ancient traditions of Egarsindur. King Hajong named Bebud lived here. Once due to a severe drought, the king cut a lake covering fifty acres of land for the welfare of his subjects. But the name of water has no smell. Meanwhile, the king dreams that if his queen enters the lake, the water will rise.
When the king told the queen about the dream, the queen agreed to go down into the lake to drink from the mouths of the subjects, which made the king happy, and the next day, the queen officially went down into the lake with a bowl of raw milk, betel nuts and vermilion. Immediately clear water came from all around the pond and filled the pond but the queen could not get out of the pond.
In the twinkling of an eye, the queen's locks of hair swirled and plunged. The king almost went crazy for the queen. As the lake is deep, the water looks very clear. The lake was dug by King Bebud, hence the lake is known as Bebud Raja's Dighi.
If leaves or anything else falls in the water of this lake, it comes to the bank the next morning and accumulates. It is said in the mouth of the people, if you ask for dishes, utensils and other gifts for any occasion, they will be found on the bank of the Dighi the next day. But the condition was that whatever was taken should be properly returned. But one day someone broke this condition and henceforth the license is no longer available.
