Baldha village of Baria union of Gazipur once had 'Balda Zamindar Bari' (Balda Zamindar Bari). It was because it is not the same anymore. Kind of ruined. There is a Kalibari and a school building built by the landlords. Which proves the existence of zamindarit chil in this area once.
According to information from various sources, the zamindar of Baldhar was Raj Kishore Roy Chowdhury. His adopted son was the zamindar Harendra Narayan Roy Chowdhury. It is believed that Harendra Narayan Roy Chowdhury built this zamindar house. The zamindar house had 40 rooms. Locally it is popularly known as 'Chowdhuribari' or 'Chadribari'.
To the south of this zamindar house there is a large field, school, Kalibari and a Dighi. However, the school has now shifted to the northern side of the grounds.
The remains of Baldhar zamindar houses (like small mounds of bricks) are scattered around. On the eastern side there is a wall about 250 feet long, 2 feet wide and sometimes 2-3 and sometimes 5-7 feet high.
It is known that the lands of various mouzas of Kapasia, Sreepur, Kaliganj, Gazipur Sadar upazilas of present Gazipur district were under the estate of Baldha zamindars. Apart from this Kafrul and Tejkunipara of Dhaka belonged to Baldha Zamindari.
Narendra Narayan Roy Chowdhury's zamindari was spread over Shailat, Dhanua and Dhamrai Mauza. He built several houses on purchased land outside his zamindari boundaries. Among them, two each in Calcutta and Darjeeling, one each in Lucknow and Puri. The house he built in Wari, Dhaka is still standing as a witness of time.
Narendra Narayan Roy Chowdhury named this house 'Kulchar', popularly known as Baldha House. Before that, he built a beautiful garden house named 'Nymph' House in Tejgaon, Dhaka. He established a museum in Wari area of Dhaka. He collected antiquities by personal effort. This magical house was particularly rich in coins, medieval weapons and clothing. During the Pakistan period, the government acquired the museum and transferred all the collections to Dhaka Museum.
Apart from collecting antiquities and ancient history materials, zamindar Narendra Narayan Roy Chowdhury created the famous Baldha Botanical Garden by collecting expensive and rare species of plants from different countries.
Baldha village is located in Baira Union of Gazipur Sadar Upazila east of Bhawal Rajbari, the district town of Gazipur. The distance from the district town is about 7-8 km. By road from any part of the country you have to come to Shibbari intersection in the district town of Gazipur. And get off the train at Joydevpur Junction in Gazipur District City. From there you can go to this zamindar's house through the Joydevpur-Rajabari road.
