Although the name of this fountain is known as Toiduchora jhorna/Waterfall, the word Jhorna is not used here. Because, Taidu means water door or window in the local language. And rhyme means fountain. So the local Tripura tribals have named this spring 'Taiduchhara'. Hence the name of the rhyme is Taiduchhara and the name of the area is Taidupara.
Taiduchhara Jharna is located 20 km from Khagrachari district town and 12 km through Jamtali Pomangpara of Dighinala upazila.
It takes about four hours to reach Taiduchhara from Dighinala to see the largest waterfall and one of the waterfalls of Chittagong Hill Tracts by crossing the hilly curved high and low path. But it depends on the walking speed. So if you leave in the morning, you can easily return before the evening. This commute is not boring at all.
You will be more intoxicated by its natural beauty than the fatigue that will consume you while walking. You can tell with your eyes closed that you will be addicted.
Not only from Dighinala to Taiduchhara, but after entering Khagrachari, only surprises await you. Wherever you look, only green mountains, blue sky and white misty clouds will leave you enthralled. Hill after hill, sometimes small houses. You may never have seen such a secluded and serene nature. Wondering why the nature of Bengal is so beautiful?
The scenery of the sky and the mountains will enchant you and the travel time will pass in seconds. From Chappapara or Pomangpara, you will reach the 1st spring after walking through an inaccessible path, many streams, high and low hills, sometimes knee-high water and sometimes chest-high water and wild jungle.
It is about 60 feet high. The water from the fountain falls on the hill and flows down the hill to join a small lake. The scene is amazing.
If you go up the mountain slope to the right of the first spring, you will find the second spring very close. Here you have to climb a slope of about 80-85 degree angle like a monkey and climb up about 100 feet. When you go up, you will see the fountain mouth from where the water of the 1st spring is flowing. Water is coming here from the 2nd spring in a trickle.
The 2nd spring can be reached after walking along the jhiri path for about an hour. This walk is as challenging as it is thrilling and beautiful. Water is coming down from the top. Pushing this velocity, the water always has to walk. Left and right where the water flow is low, algae has accumulated. The foot slips a little. Sometimes the current of water here is so strong that it wants to push down. So you have to tread very carefully here. Once it slips, it must be thrown several hundred cubits away. From here you have to go higher. On the way, you have to pass big stones and waist-deep water. Then you will get the second Taidu Jharna.
The fountain is beautiful and breathtaking. It is so spectacular and unique that no one can resist. You will want to jump under the fountain. The fountain is about 80 feet high. There are many stone steps like stairs where the water of the spring comes and falls directly. Water is cascading down the steps. Bathing can be done easily by standing on the steps. The pain of a long tiring walk will be washed away in a moment in the water of the spring. The cool splash of the spring water will make you forget for a moment how far you have to walk back.
There is water here throughout the year. Water flow is reduced in winter. And the rainy season becomes full youth. But it is a good decision to visit here before winter and at the end of monsoon. Around the fountain there is only greenery.
Jum farming is going on in the neighboring hills. In the midst of the green of the mountains, the crop field of Zoom has added a different green. It will seem as if there is a patch of green in the middle of the green.
Not only that, the hospitality of the natives here will impress you. Your Taiduchhara trip will remain incomplete without meeting and interacting with the indigenous people and observing the scenery along the way.
Waterfalls, streams, mountain life, sky and mountains mithali, Shivchari hill rock idols, stone elephants and stone snakes will fill your eyes with satisfaction, you will raise the veil of achievement.
