Shilaidah is an area located in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia District in southwestern Bangladesh. Kuthibari (Rabindranath Thakurer Kuthibari) is located here. Rabindranath spent a significant part of his youth here. Padma river flows by the side of Shilaidah Kuthibari. 

Shilaidah is a village in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia District. The former name of the village is Khorshedpur near the river Padma. Rabindranath's grandfather Prince Dwarkanath Tagore got the zamindari of this region in 1807. Later in 1889, Rabindranath Tagore came here as a zamindar. Here he managed the zamindari till 1901. At this time he wrote his famous books Sonar Tari, Chitra, Chaitali, Gitanjali etc. while sitting here. Jagdish Chandra Bose, Dwijendralal Roy, Pramath Chowdhury and many others came to meet Rabindranath here. 

The kuthibari of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore in Shilaidah of Kumarkhali in Kushtia has become bustling with visitors. Hundreds of visitors are coming every day from different places of the country and abroad. School, college, university students from different parts of the country and various office and court officials are coming here for picnic. Kuthibari, the memorial of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore, is bustling with local and foreign tourists, but it is still not recognized as a national tourist center. Meanwhile, due to the negligence of the authorities, several places around it including Kachari Bari, the memorial of Kabi Guru, are going to be vacated. Another tourist center in Kushtia Kumarkhali is the Kuthibari of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. Although most of the year is full of domestic and foreign tourists, the number of tourists increases several times during the tourist season.     

How to go:

Rabindranath's cottage is about 20 km from Kushtia city. From Kushtia city you can go to Shilaidah Kuti easily and at very low cost by auto rickshaw, CNG and easy bike and other vehicles.
