Belai Bill – Gazipur

Belai Beel is a beautiful place in Gazipur district near the capital Dhaka. Scattered all around. The colorful crafts on the blue sky of the river, the shadow of that sky on the water of the bill and after a while the wind all together create a mysterious atmosphere.

A beautiful combination of river and bill, silence all around, light pulsation of water and sound of chirping insects is a different time. Which is a great place to visit for a day.

Although there is no water in the bill all year round, it appears with double beauty in monsoons. Shapla flower fair is going on all over the bill. The red and white shaplars are sitting in their own kingdom. You can hire a dinghy or a motorized boat for the whole day at the Kanaya Bazar ghat. If you take an engine-powered boat, you can drive around on your own.

At present the bill covers an area of eight square miles, but it was once larger. Belai bill about Baria, Brahmangaon, Bakhtarpur and Bamchini Mauza villages. But once upon a time there were no villages around Belai Bill. Like the droughty Chelai River, Belai Bill was also a droughty river.

It is said that the land lord of Bhawal, Bhadeshwar Ghosh, cut 80 canals and drained the Chelai river. Then it becomes a huge bill.

During the monsoons fishermen dig dugouts for fishing around the bill. And during the dry season, the bill turns into a single cropland. Boro rice cultivation was done in the bill then.

The view of the bill in the afternoon is a sight to behold. Seeing this view from the new bridge of Kanaiya Bazar will leave you meditative for a while. If you want, you can visit the island village called Bamchini Mouza located in the bill.

An interesting thing about this village is that there is only one house in a mouza of the village which does not exist anywhere else in Bangladesh. With this beautiful view, you can actually have a thirst for tea by going to Kanaya Bazar and eating tea biscuits.

There is nothing to eat in Kanaya Bazar except tea and biscuits. So if you want to travel for a long time, take food with you.

How to go:

A wonderful confluence of river and bill to go to this place you have to take a bus from Gulistan or Mohakhali to Gazipur bus stand.

Take BRTC or Gazipur Paribahan bus from Motijheel or Mahakhali to Gazipur. Get off at Gazipur Shibbari intersection. Walk a little further and get on the Tempu to go to Kanaia Bazar. After 30 minutes get off at Kanaya Bazaar. The rent will be 10 rupees. Go down to Kanaya Bazar and cross the bridge to Chelai river.

Those taking private vehicles should cross the Tongi flyover and proceed forward. From the Public College Gate, enter the shaded road on the left. Four miles from here (crossing Jal Jangal Kavya) turn right and ten minutes to Kanaiya Bazar.

Come here and hire a boat. If the boat is small, it will take 500-600 taka for the whole day. And the big boat is 2,000 rupees. You can stay on the boat at night. If you want to stay at night, you have to inform the market committee.
